Zelma Jane Winn

Zelma Jane Winn, 89, of Bozeman, formerly of Oklahoma City, OK transitioned from this life to the next on December 1, 2014. She was born July 14, 1925 in Great Bend, KS to Glenn and Lucille (Jones) Archer. Her early childhood was spent in Kansas; her father was a school superintendent and they moved every few years. She graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City and earned a BA in Home Economics from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. After the war, she married Dr. George L. Winn on August 3, 1947 in Oklahoma City at the First United Methodist Church. She happily raised her twin daughters, Ann and Jan, while George was a partner in the Oklahoma Allergy Clinic. Zelma especially enjoyed interior decorating, gardening, leading youth activities, entertaining and hostessing for family, friends and organizations, and participating in many church and civic clubs and activities. Zelma cherished PEO, Chapter DP women's philanthropic organization of which she was a long-standing active member. Zelma will always be remembered for her generous spirit, loving heart, and deep devotion to her family, friends and relatives. Zelma and George loved Oklahoma City and believed in giving back to their community. They participated in and contributed to many civic and cultural organizations, including charter memberships at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and Science Museum Oklahoma. Zelma also contributed to various groups, including the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Oklahoma Railway Museum, the Winn's unique historical Oklahoma City and railway collections from George's lifetime hobby and their travels. Well remembered for showing their 16 millimeter movies and slides, Zelma and George traveled to numerous countries on 6 continents and all 50 US states. On these trips they truly enjoyed learning the history and participating in cultures around the globe. Some of their adventures included riding camels and elephants, cruise ships, piper planes, street cars and trains, the Orient Express, rickshas, river boats and hot air balloons. Zelma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband George. Survivors include her twins Annie Tennant, Janette (John) Mathis, and granddaughter Kheyala Mathis all of Bozeman, MT A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 4:00 pm with open house to follow at the Mathis Home.
