Elroy J. Young, 88, of Bozeman, Montana, formerly of Stover, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Highgate Senior Living in Bozeman. He was born November 7, 1919 in Stover, MO to Henry and Wooda (Wessel) Young. Elroy married Irene Nolting, on August 10, 1943 in Stover, MO. Elroy and Irene spent their entire lives in Stover. Together they raised their daughter Carolyn. Elroy was no stranger to hard work, at an early age he started mixing concrete by hand to make concrete culverts, this hard work blossomed in to a very successful plumbing and heating business. Elroy was very involved in his community and his church. He served as a city councilman for many terms and he was active at Christ Lutheran Church in Stover, he served on the churches building fund committee as chairman. In later years Elroy cared for Irene until he couldn#8217;t, she died July 25, 2005. In 2004 Elroy was invited to move to Bozeman to live near his granddaughter. He immediately accepted the invitation and moved into Highgate Senior living, he had some wonderful friends there among the residents and staff. Elroy worked hard most of his life, he was a man without many hobbies, while running a successful plumbing and electrical business. His greatest joy and passion was his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene, his brothers Leonard and Orva Young. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Ronald Eken of Ten Mile, TN; two granddaughters and their spouses Michelle and Greg Baker of Bozeman, Montana, Dr. Stephanie Eken Sander and her husband Shannon Sander of Louisville, KY; great grandson Cole Baker of Bozeman; three sisters Dorene Porter of Stover, MO, Shirley Bush of Stover, MO, Viola Mae Helms of Booneville, MO and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 13, 2008, at 1:30 PM, at Christ Lutheran Church, Stover, MO, with interment following at the Stover Cemetery in Stover, MO.
