Virginia Thorne

Virginia (Hastings) Thorne passed away on Monday, September 6, 2011. Ginny was born in Vancouver, Washington, the second child of Don and Noreen Hastings. During her youth she lived in many different places including Hawaii, Idaho, Germany, North Carolina, and finally settling in Santa Cruz, California. She graduated from Holy Cross High School in Santa Cruz and attended nearby Cabrillo College where she received her AA degree and met her husband, Don Thorne. Together they had many adventures and joys, most notably the birth of their son, Michael. Ginny was well known for being extremely generous, particularly to extended family members and friends. In addition, Ginny loved to travel being the unofficial tour guide of the family. An avid reader, she had an extensive book collection. Her biggest joy was her son Michael, his wife Kim, and her granddaughter, Madeleine. Ginny spent most of her adult life in Huntington Beach, California. She moved back to Santa Cruz in 2008. In the last two years Ginny spent most of her time at her second home in Bozeman, Montana near her son, Michael and his family. Ginny is survived by her son Michael (Kim), granddaughter Madeleine of Bozeman, a brother Donald (Darlene) of Santa Cruz, California, brother Bill (Molly) of Seattle, brother Bob (Shari) of Soquel, California, and her former husband Don. In addition she has many loving nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Ginny#8217;s Life will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 24th at the Santa Cruz Chaminade Resort and Spa, One Chaminade Lane, Santa Cruz, CA 95065. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
