Virgil 'Sarge' Putman, 88, passed away January 25, 2012 at his home in Bozeman. He was born February 8, 1923 in Van Buren, Arkansas to Kenneth and Elizabeth Putman. Virgil married Alice Nunes on August 6, 1951 in Yuma, Arizona. He served in the United States Navy for 4 years and then retired from the United States Army after serving over 20 years. He then was a teacher for ROTC. He attained the status as a 32 degree Mason, which was a life-long passion. After his retirement from the military Virgil became a trucking legend when he started his own trucking business, V.K. Putman Trucking Co. He was very well-loved by his many friends and relatives and was successful in all his endeavors. Virgil fancied himself as a gambler and was very proud to have a private table and a free room when he went to Las Vegas. He and his wife Alice very much enjoyed traveling the country in their RV. Places visited included Alaska, Arkansas and California. Virgil was preceded in death by 1 sister and several brothers. He is survived by his wife, Alice; son John and dog Mischa. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm,Monday, January 30, 2012 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Rest in Peace Sarge!
