Veronica Wetsch

Veronica Geiger Wetsch (93) passed away July 9, 2011 at the Gallatin County Rest Home where she has resided for the past 3 years. Veronica was born on the family homestead West of Glendive Montana on July 21, 1917, the fifth of seven children to Monica and Pius Geiger. Veronica was the first of her family to attend and graduate from high school. Because of this, she was a pioneer and instrumental in her younger brothers and cousins attending high school. Veronica married Chris Wetsch on May 17, 1941. Their union saw the birth of four children, Bruce, Janice, Neil and Kristi. When Chris died, Veronica, Neil and Kristi moved to Bozeman and Veronica worked cleaning hotel rooms and altering dresses. She then attended a nine month secretary program at Bozeman Tech School and was hired at MSU at the School of Nursing as a secretary to the professors. She worked there until her retirement in 1978 and then became active with the Bozeman Senior Center and Retired Senior and Volunteer Program. Veronica enjoyed traveling, crocheting, playing bingo at the Bozeman Senior Center and playing cards with her lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and all six siblings. She is survived by her four children: Bruce Wetsch and wife Judy, Jacksonville FL; Janice Smolinski and husband Mark, Petoskey, MI; Neil Wetsch and wife Debbie, Albuquerque, NM and Kristi Wetsch of Bozeman. Seven grandchildren: Shawn, Erica, Shadd, Nicole, Michelle, Austin and Amber. Six Great Grandchildren: Miles, Asher, Lucy, Owen, Kaira and Dawson and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to: Gallatin County Rest Home, RSVP, Bozeman Senior Center, Career Transitions Inc. or Eagle Mount. A Rosary Service will be held at 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 17th at Dahl Funeral Chapel with a vigil to follow at 5:30. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday July 18th at The Bozeman Catholic Community Center (corner of Grand and Olive) with interment at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
