Veronica 'Jane' Shallcross

December 20, 1926 — February 28, 2015

Veronica “Jane” Rita Nelson Shallcross left us with love and memories to see us through on February 28, 2015. She was born December 20, 1926 at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago, Illinois to Victor Hugo Nelson and Veronica Philomena Bly. Jane’s plan was to become a nun…but she met David Whitton Shallcross and her dreams changed! Jane and Dave were married on February 8, 1947, and had 51 wonderful years together. Jane has always been a loving and caring person. She was born to be a volunteer and worked tirelessly for her church, school, and community. Jane was president of the Council of Catholic Women of Visitation Parish and president of the Joliet Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. Jane was a lay member of the US Council of Catholic Bishops. She served as a Representative of the City Council in Elmhurst, Illinois. Jane was an active member of the League of Women Voters and Church Women United. Tireless! Jane was loved by everyone she met! She always said that if you have a life filled with JOY (Jesus first, Others second, Yourself third), you could not help but be happy. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Joan, her sister Rose Marie, her granddaughter Kristen Prescott, her son-in-law Bernie Schaff, dear friend Sister Regina Marie of the Holy Spirit, and her husband and love of her life, David. Jane is survived by: her sister, Jacqueline Hoffman; her daughter, Barbara Schaff; sons David (Dorothy) Shallcross and Thomas (Anita) Shallcross; daughter Veronica (James) Wing; her wonderful grandchildren Len (Charlotte) Prescott, Lauren (Ryan) Dee, Nick (Amanda) Shallcross, Mark (Emily) Wing, Brittany (Kyle) Hintz, and Molly (Dan) Amack. She is also survived by: her great grandchildren Karsyn, Oliver, and Emma Prescott; Holten, Ellen, and Paden Dee; Mason and Lane Hintz; and Whitton, Declan, Emlyn, Audun, and Vivien Amack; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends (especially “CLUB”)!!!! Funeral services will be held in Elmhurst Illinois on April 18, 2015 at Visitation Catholic Church, with burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her name to the Foresters c/o of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 220 W. Main St, Bozeman, MT 59715.
