Vernice S. Watterud, 89, of Glasgow passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010 in Bozeman. She was born on May 1, 1921 in Leeds, North Dakota, a daughter to Sievert and Jennie (Johnson) Biem. At an early age, Vernice and her family moved to Opheim, MT, where she was raised and educated. She married Lester Watterud on March 4, 1938 in Opheim. They made their home in Opheim farming and raising their five children. Vernice worked for Mountain Bell and later as a clerk for the United States Post Office until her retirement. After retiring, she and Lester moved to Glasgow. In 2001, she moved into Nemont Manor, enjoying her friends and residing there until her health required her to move closer to family. She then moved to Bozeman and resided at Highgate Assisted Living until the time of her death. Vernice attended the Assembly of God Church in Glasgow; she enjoyed sewing, crochet, reading and crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester; two sons, Lyle and Leslie; and siblings Randy, Anard, Ernest, Raymond and Ilene. Survivors include her children, Don (Elaine) Watterud of Bozeman, MT, Shirley Quiring of Colorado Springs, CO, Larry (Tess) Watterud of Fresno, CA, and LaDonna (Ken) Wade of Florence, AL; daughter-in-law, Karen Watterud of Colorado Springs; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; sister Opal (Fred) Whitkanack of Brazil, IN; and brother Kenneth Biem of Spokane, WA. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Bell Mortuary. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the Assembly of God Church, followed by interment at the Highland Cemetery.
