Travis Edward Harding was born in Bozeman on February 28th, 1979. From the minute he entered this world, he was big and strong and equally kind and thoughtful. He had blue eyes that could calm any storm. He attended schools in Bozeman, graduating from Bozeman Senior High in 1997. Travis loved the game of football and played on the Varsity all four years. He formed lifetime bonds with his teammates and their families. As an offensive lineman for the Hawks, he was All Conference 1st team and All State 2nd team both his Junior and Senior years. He was interested in Law Enforcement and was very active in the Bozeman Police Department Explorers program. From an early age he worked out in Taekwondo and eventually earned his Black Belt. He participated in an exchange in High School where he lived with a family in Germany.
Travis joined the Navy and served shortly in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He then spent several years in Pearl Harbor Hawaii. He sailed on the USS Frederick LST 1184. Travis attained his degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Alaska in Anchorage, and subsequently became a campus police officer. He made his home in Anchorage and worked as a paralegal in a law firm for the Department of the Interior. At the time of his passing, he was in the Portland Oregon area pursuing his career in the Legal Field.
Travis loved exploring places like Thailand, Brazil, Germany and America. One of his favorite things to do was spend time with his mom in the Paradise Valley where he could be with the animals and keep a close eye out for his favorite elk herd that roamed free there. He loved fishing in Alaska with his dad. Two favorite adventures were the encounter with the Alaska Brown Bear, and having to be evacuated from the Deshka River Lodge to safety there at the Deshka river landing. There are also many dogs and cats in this world who consider themselves lucky to have been his friend. Travis is survived by his parents, Jim and Mary Harding, of Bozeman, his mother Lori Brockway and her partner Dennis White in The Paradise Valley South of Livingston, and his Brother Robert Hanley in San Diego, California. His Aunt Lynn Brockway lives in California. He was an amazingly caring person and many of us remember him as a friend that has changed their lives for the better.
Travis would want any memorials to be sent to the Humane Society/Heart of the Valley in Bozeman 1549 East Cameron Bridge Road, Bozeman, MT. 59718. There will be a celebration of his life at the Dahl Funeral Chapel Saturday April 16th at 1:00 PM.
