Stephen D. Dragone, 69, of Bozeman, passed in the presence of his loving family on Sunday, May 12, 2024.
On summer break from college, Steve and a friend loaded an old truck and headed to Yellowstone National Park for a summer job. This proved to be a transformative summer for Steve, and it cemented in him a lifelong appreciation for wilderness and all things “out west.”
In September 2013, Steve turned off his long and successful career path and onto the path he had been aiming for his entire life, returning to Montana. Settling in Bozeman, he opened Blacksmith Italian with his son, Cory. Steve was truly in his element in Bozeman, and he quickly became the most popular guy in town. No matter where he went, he knew everyone, and everyone wanted to chat with him.
Steve had numerous visitors over the years, and he especially enjoyed sharing the area with family and friends. An excellent tour guide, the hikes were always an adventure, though you quickly learned to double Steve’s estimates of miles and time required. While the scenery and hikes always made for a memorable time, the best part of any visit with Steve was being able to see a truly happy man, living his best life. Steve’s journey was cut far too short, but we all can take some comfort in knowing that he was able to achieve his dream, and it was everything he had hoped it would be.
Steve is survived by his mother, Marie “Feeya”; two sons, Cory, and Mario (Jacquie); his brother, DC (Laura); sisters, Cynthia (Rick) Fox and Lauren (George) Bulliss; grandchild, Alessio. Loved by many nieces and nephews who knew him as “Uncle Best.” Plus, countless friends.
He is proceeded is death by his father Daniel and brother, Andrew Dragone.
