Shirley Louise Neupert

Shirley Neupert, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2022, at Highgate Senior Living in Bozeman, Montana. Born in 1929 in Hamburg, New York to Ralph and Dorothy (Holder) Harrington, Shirley grew up surrounded by her father’s nursery business with greenhouses, a tennis court, and an irrigation pond for swimming. She graduated Ohio Wesleyan University 1951 and married Charlie Notess in 1953. They were both active in the international folk dance and Balkan dance communities in the Buffalo, New York area. They had three sons, Peter, Mark, and Greg.



Shirley later moved to Seattle, Washington, and then married Bob Neupert in 1970. They lived in Tacoma and Seattle and eventually owned and ran a grocery store, Public Mark-It Foods, in Fife. They kept active in a variety of folk-dance groups and skied, hiked, climbed, and danced with The Mountaineers. Shirley loved the games they played and was always a keen competitor in tennis, ping-pong, cribbage, dominoes, bridge, and hearts. After Bob's death in 2010, Shirley moved to Bozeman, Montana to be near family. Even in her 80's, she continued folk dancing and hiking.



Shirley was preceded in death by Bob Neupert, Charlie Notess, son Mark Notess, stepdaughter Caron Smith, brother Alfred Harrington, and sister Nancy Tedesco. She is survived by sister Carol Smith, sons Peter (Martha) Notess, Gregory (Cecelia) Notess, daughter-in-law Liz Notess, stepson Roger Neupert, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.



The family is grateful for the excellent care provided to Shirley by staff at Highgate Senior Living. Memorials can be given to Highgate Together (highgateseniorliving.com/highgate-together) or a charity of your choice.



A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, May 21st, at Dahl Funeral & Cremation Service.
