Ruby Rosella Ketron, 101, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving daughter and son-in-law on May 24th, 2016. She was born at home, 8 miles northeast of Plentywood, Montana, on September 24th, 1914. She grew up on the family farm. Her mother and father came over from Denmark and homesteaded there. As a young girl, she went into the town of Plentywood and found a couple of jobs. She moved to Billings and found a job working for a doctor. While living in Billings, Ruby met Chester Ketron. They were married in Plentywood on July 5, 1939.
During World War II, they moved to California where Chet became a police sergeant at Mare Island Naval Station and Ruby worked as a waitress. They moved to Vallejo, CA after the war. Their son William Chris Ketron was born in Vallejo on Nov. 21, 1946. Later, Ruby flew back to Plentywood to attend a brother’s funeral and stayed there until their daughter Vicky Christine was born, Feb. 17, 1949. They moved to Billings and Ruby worked for a few years at The Top Notch Café and then worked for years at Hart Albin’s and Coles Dept. Store.
She loved selling clothing and working with the public. She retired when she was 72 years old. She bought her own home on Broadwater Ave. and later moved into Sage Tower Retirement Home. To keep herself busy, she made many quilts, receiving blankets and embroidered kitchen towels which were cherished by many family members and friends.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents Lars and Hulda Christensen and siblings: Myrtle Anderson, Melvin Christensen, Ernie Christensen, Alma Timmerman, Lyle Christensen, and Clifford Christensen.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicky (Jim) Ingersoll of Belgrade, MT, grandchildren Eddy Ingersoll of Federal Way, Washington, Michelle (Guy) Paluck of Manhattan, MT., Tim Ketron of Missoula, Kristy (Jamie) Hodik of Lewistown, MT, Misty (Craig) Kriskovich of Hobson, MT, 7 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM Friday, May 27th at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Garden in Billings. A gathering will be held afterwards at the Dahl Funeral Chapel.
