Rose Mary Keenan

September 25, 1926 — October 14, 2016

Rose Mary (Schwab) Keenan Long, 90, formerly of Bozeman, passed away on October 14, 2016 at her home at St. Anthony’s Village in Portland, Oregon.

A Bozeman native, she was born to Lucy and John Schwab on September 25, 1926 and had just celebrated her 90th birthday last month with over 60 family and friends. She attended Bozeman Holy Rosary Schools and graduated in 1944. She married William John “Bill” Keenan on June 23, 1947 and dedicated her life to her husband and six sons.

Together, Rose Mary and Bill owned and operated Dixon’s Paint Store until their retirement in 1978. They moved to Spokane in 1978 and returned to Bozeman a few years later after their youngest son Rob graduated from Gonzaga Prep. Rose Mary was a strong supporter of catholic education and served in many volunteer capacities at Holy Rosary and Resurrection Parishes. She was fixture at all the school functions, plays, concerts and athletic events for over 20 years. She was also a longtime supporter of Gonzaga University and Gonzaga Prep education efforts, and many of her children and grandchildren have carried on her tradition by attending Gonzaga University. Bill passed away in 1988 and, in1992, Rose Mary married her child hood acquaintance and fellow parishioner Mervy Long. He passed away in 2008 and Rose Mary moved to Portland to be closer to her family there.

She is survived by her six sons Rob, Bill, John, Rick, Pete and Kevin and their spouses and partners, 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren as well as her sister Theresa Theisen, brother Joe Schwab and literally hundreds of Schwab, Theisen and Keenan family members.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Bill and Mervy; her parents Lucy and John Schwab; her brother John “Jack” Schwab and her great grandson Liam Moran.
