Ronald Francis Maroney, 72, passed away August 28, 2015 at his home in Belgrade. Ron was born November 7, 1942 in Livingston, Montana to J.K. and Mary (Isbell) Maroney. In 1950 the family moved to the Springhill area to begin a new life on the ranch. It was there under Ross Peak, that Ron developed his love of farming and ranching and a passion for the outdoors.
He attended grade school at Springhill Community School and graduated in 1960 from
Holy Rosary High School. He graduated from Montana State College in 1965 with a degree in Ag-Business.
He married the love of his life Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Veltkamp on February 26, 1966 in Bozeman. He worked for the Farm Home Administration and in the banking industry for many years, finishing his career selling cars for Connell Chevrolet and Ressler Motors and retired in 2009.
Ron enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and classic cars. He maintained a connection to his roots in agriculture, raising cows, pigs, and chickens as well as keeping a garden. His best times were spent being an awesome "Opa" to his 12 grandkids, sharing his sense of humor and fun-loving spirit with them. This legacy of love was his greatest achievement in life.
Ron is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty; sons Ken (Kimberly) Maroney of Boise, Dan (Carrie) Maroney and Kevin (Katie) Maroney of Belgrade, and daughter Denise (Michael) Maczewski also of Belgrade; grandchildren Emily, Abigail, Grace, and Allison Maroney, Jennie, Logan, and Kaden Maczewski, Chris, Tabytha, and Dillon Maroney, Audrey and Jacob Maroney.
