Robert Vandercook, 52, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2008 in Butte, MT. He was born on July 30, 1956, the son of Clare Roland and Mildred Jean (Herrin) Vandercook in Alhambra, CA. Robert graduated from Dana Hills High School in Dana Point, CA where he played football and was active in the drama department. He later graduated from Lane Community College in Eugene, OR with a degree in Environmental Technology. In June 1997 he received his certifications from Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Orlando, FL. Most recently, he had been working toward a degree in Design Drafting. In 1983, he met the love of his life, Katherine Stubbs, in Yellowstone National Park where they were both employed. On April 21, 1984, the two were married in Livingston, MT. They moved to Belgrade, MT in 1986. Robert loved being with his friends, having deep conversations, listening to music and being outdoors. He especially loved the ocean and the mountains. Growing up in CA he enjoyed skateboarding, surfing, snorkeling and scuba diving. He also enjoyed golfing, camping, river floating and skiing. He will be missed by all who loved him. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, C.R. and Millie. Survivors include his wife, Kathy, of Belgrade; Ron Vandercook of West Linn, OR; Linda Nies of Squaw Valley, CA; and Laurie Vandercook of Aguanga, CA. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 on Friday, October 24, 2008 at Dahl Funeral Chapel.
