Robert A. Dixon was born in Harvard, Neb. on July 15, 1920, to John and Lottie Dixon. He died on the 4th of July, 2011. The family moved to Bozeman in 1927, where Bob graduated from Holy Rosary School. He fought in WWII with the 41st Infantry Division of Montana's 163rd in New Guinea, where he was wounded in combat. Bob was awarded a Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star and the American Freedom Medal. He was proud to have fought with the brave men of the 163rd. He attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts in Interior Design, returning to Bozeman to work in the family business, Dixon's Decorators, Inc., and to raise a family. He married Cleone Parker, a union that lasted almost 60 years. Together they raised 5 children. Bob spent many years in service to this community through the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and more. He worked hard to secure funding for the American Legion's low income housing. We are proud of our dad's service, but more, he was great dad, and honest man, a wonderful friend and a pretty sharp card player. He loved family gatherings, his grandchildren, pot roast and a good ball game. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleone, his parents and his siblings: Lawrence (Lillian), Don (Lola), Dorge (Avon Ary), Bunny (Eldon Dahl), Ralph (Dottie) and Jerry (Connie). He is survived by his children: John and Candi of Eagle River, AK, Jean and Bob Carey in California, Beep and Ginny of Bozeman, Michael and Steve Torstveit of Bozeman and Shelley and Mike Giese of Spokane, WA. His grandchildren: Keetra and Shannon Dixon, Nick and Zoe Carey, Tom and Jake Dixon, Emily Torstveit Ngara and Sven Torstveit, and Chris and Tim Giese. His great-grandchildren: Jonas, Connor, Cayden, Zoe, Ryan and Cadence. He is also survived by in-laws: Orin and Rita Parker, Merle Parker, Dottie Dixon and Lola Dixon. A heart full of nieces and nephews, and some very good friends. We would like to thank Spring Meadows for their support and care, esp. Gail, Kris, Vicky and Wendy. The wonderful women at Hospice, esp. Jan and Bonnie for late night visits, and Dr. Borgenicht and Ted Preiss for their compassion. A vigil will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Dahl Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. A luncheon will follow interment at the Bozeman Catholic Community Center. Memorials can be made to Hospice, the American Legion or the Patriot Guard.
