Robert Charles Perkins, 78, of Belgrade, passed away from natural causes at his home on Saturday, October 24, 2015. He was born January 22, 1937 in Bagley, Minnesota to Ivan and Florence (Mode) Perkins. He was raised and educated in Bagley.
Bob was a logger—his family had been in the lumber industry for many generations. While he was working in Montana he met Glenda Eyre; the two were married in 1968 and raised seven children together.
He worked the logging industry all over the country, looking for that “perfect patch of timber.” He finally settled in Belgrade in 1987, where he owned and operated Perkins and Sons Logging. Bob retired in 2005. During his retirement he worked in his wood shop and tinkered with his “treasures”: Caterpillar tractor, skidder, logging trucks, sawmills, and anything else that interested him. He studied and learned about the production of bio diesel, and spent a period of time doing that.
Bob was a devout Southern Baptist Christian. He loved Jesus, his family, his church, and his
community.
Bob also took loving care of Glenda during her illness. After her passing in 2012, he tried to fill his time with new activities. He made two trips to Arizona, took up guitar, he even took dance lessons with “Have Fun Dancing.” When he signed up for dance lessons, he asked them “Do you think you can teach a poor old broke down logger how to dance?” He found out the answer to that was a resounding Yes. Now he is finally reunited with his loving wife, Glenda, and they are dancing in Heaven.
Glenda and Bob loved bluegrass music. They attended a bluegrass festival in Bob's native state of Minnesota for quite a few years. After Glenda died, his daughters Carrie and Wanda went with him.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife Glenda, and son Rudy. Now that he has joined them, we believe he has finally found that “perfect patch of timber.” That is the logger's reward for having “Done well my good & faithful servant.”
Survivors include: sons Robert C. (Linda) Perkins Jr., Tracy (Jeanie) Perkins, and Kevin
Perkins; daughters Wanda (Harold “Butch”) LaTray, Carrie (Russ) Frantzich, and Roxanne
