Robert Brown

Robert Edward Brown, 78, of Bozeman passed away Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., after a long illness. Born in Willimantic, Conn., on Oct. 8, 1930, he was the son of the late Benjamin A. Brown and Marion E. Brown. Bob grew up in Storrs, Conn., and graduated from Windham High School in 1948 and the University of Connecticut with a bachelor's and Master of Arts degree in business. He was also a ROTC graduate and attended the Chinese Language School. He served in the Korean War as a Chinese interpreter. After his discharge, he worked as an insurance agent for Met Life. In the 1960s, he continued his studies at the University of Oregon. He taught at Lewis and Clark University and Montana State University. Upon moving to the Bozeman area, he continued his work as an insurance agent as a chartered life underwriter. In the 1960s and 1970s, Bob enjoyed raising and racing sled dogs. He continued his outdoor activities, including marathon running. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Brown. He is also survived by three sons, Theodore of Crete, Neb., Peter of Edinburg, Texas, and Benjamin and his wife, Jeanette of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; two granddaughters, Whitney of Germany and Kailey of California; a great-grandson, Noah Benjamin of Germany; a brother, Richard A. Brown of Storrs, Conn.; and a stepdaughter, Christie Strock and her husband, Steve and their four children, Jeff, Brad, Greg and Jessica of Belgrade.
