Richard Forester

May 17, 1954 — February 22, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard "Rick" L. Forester, Jr., who left us on February 22, 2025, at the age of 71. Rick was born on May 17, 1954, in Spokane, Washington, to Richard L. Forester Sr. and Eileen (Butcher) Forester. He grew up in the beautiful surroundings of Billings and Bozeman, graduating from Billings Senior High School in 1972, where he first brought his passion for music to life.

From an early age, Rick had a love for rhythm that shaped his life. As a lifelong drummer, he filled the lives of many with music, warmth, and joy. Rick's high school band, Express, played at high school dances around the Billings area. He later joined the John Colter band in Bozeman in the early eighties. They went on to produce an album. They were very popular locally, and played as far as Coeur d'Alene, Spokane and Vancouver Canada. He then joined another locally-legendary band in Bozeman, Sgt. Rock. He was an exceptional drummer, well admired and respected in the local musical community-a true artist whose talent will be sorely missed.

Outside of music, Rick was known for his kind heart and willingness to lend a hand, often seen at Owenhouse ACE Hardware, helping customers find what they needed. He remained dedicated to his Owenhouse family for 30 years. His passions extended beyond music to include building computers and enjoying simulated flight programs, a testament to his inquisitive mind.

Rick is survived by his sister, Sue Forester, her husband Bob Falle, and their daughter Andrea Falle, all of Bozeman. He is also survived by his sister Jan Forester of Missoula and niece Jillian Walters of Seattle. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dick and Eileen Forester.

A celebration of Rick's life will be held at Dahl Funeral and Cremation chapel on May 4th at 2:00, where we will gather to share memories, laughter, and love-just as he would have wanted. We invite all who knew him to come and honor his spirit, as we pay tribute to a man who brought so much joy to our lives.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Bozeman School District 7, Fine Arts and Music Department (www.bsd7.org). May his legacy of rhythm and kindness live on in our hearts.
