Richard 'Dick' Lee Yelton

Richard “Dick” Lee Yelton passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 in Bozeman, Montana. He was born on October 30, 1925 in Erlanger, Kentucky to Everett and Jennie (Geiger) Yelton. Dick graduated from Lloyd High School in Erlanger, KY. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. He attended Carnegie Mellon University working toward a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering (ABT). Dick was a trainee in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Mary Jane Lucas on June 30, 1950, in Erlanger, KY. The couple moved to St.Albans, W.Va., where they raised three daughters. Dick’s career commitment to Union Carbide Corporation spanned 35 years . He spent 22years with Carbide in West Virginia, then accepted promotions to Texas, New Jersey/NYC, and finally to the corporate headquarters in Danbury, Connecticut. He retired in 1985 after serving as Vice President of Distribution of Chemicals and Plastics for Union Carbide. No matter where the family lived, Dick served as both a deacon and a Sunday School teacher at his local Baptist churches. Dick will be remembered for his integrity and faithfulness to the Lord as well as to his family and friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was very generous, and had a “green thumb”, producing beautiful gardens at his homes. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brother Everett Jr. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Yelton; daughters Debby (Bill) Young of Yellowstone National Park, WY, Cindy (Roger) Alber of Massillon, Ohio, and Mary (Earl) McMillion of Exchange, West Virginia; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A family memorial service will be held in late July in Yellowstone National Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dick’s name to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
