Paul Rinderknecht

May 15, 1920 — March 22, 2010

Paul Rinderknecht, 89, passed away Monday morning, March 22, 2010. Paul was born in 1920 in Bozeman and lived in many towns in Montana, including Glasgow, Havre, Shelby, Conrad, Missoula and Great Falls, as well as Boise, Idaho, where he worked for Buttrey Foods for 45 years. Paul met his wife, Susan, in 1942, and they were married the same year in Glasgow, celebrating 67 years of marriage. Shortly after they were married, Paul was called to serve in World War II in the CBI area for nearly four years. When he returned from the war, he and his wife eventually moved to Great Falls, where they owned and ran a locker plant with his brother and wife for 13 years. He later returned to work for Buttreys as their trouble-shooter to build up meat market departments. Paul was a kind and loving person with a wonderful sense of humor. His wife's mother, Laura Ralston, lived with them for 19 years. In June 2009, Paul and Susan moved to Parkhaven Retirement and Assisted Living in Manhattan, where Susan resides. Paul is survived by his wife, Susan; daughter, Lorie Hovanec and husband, Gary of Anchorage, Alaska; sister, Marguerite Long of Bozeman; and several nieces and nephews, including Terry Epler of Billings, Linda Schmall of Boise, Idaho, Mike Ralston of Redding, Calif., Allen Rockne of Billings, Jim Rockne of Riverton, Wyo., and Susan Campbell of Monarch. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Fred and Bertha Rinderknecht; siblings, Ben Rinderknecht, Alma Brown and Fritz Rinderknecht; and niece, Linda Border. Paul's ashes will be interred in Sunset Hills Cemetery in May at a private family ceremony.
