July 16, 1926 — February 22, 2010

Paul Lyon Forsythe passed away on Monday, February 22, 2010. Paul was born on July 16, 1926 in Atlantic City, New Jersey to Harry and Mary (Rogers) Forsythe. Paul was the third oldest of eight children. He had four brothers #8211; Richard, Marvin, Marvin#8217;s twin that died at birth, and Donald, and three sisters; Madeline, Blanch and Carol. Paul attended New Bedford High School in New Bedford, Massachusetts. In June of 1943, Paul joined the Navy at the age of 16 years old. His father had to sign his papers so he could join at such a young age. Paul served in the Navy during World War II and was discharged from the Navy in November 1946. He then joined the Army National Guard in New Bedford, MA. Times were tough and jobs were scarce so in 1950 Paul joined the Air Force and retired from the Air Force on Dec. 31, 1969. During this time he served in Korea and Vietnam. Paul traveled all over the world, met many different people and proudly served his country. Although he often talked of the beauty of Bangkok, Thailand, he said there is no place in the world like America and was proud to have helped build our country. In 1959 Paul married Ruth Ann Pheiffer at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota. They had two children, Paul and Nadine. After working as a Flight Engineer and a Supply Sergeant in the Air Force, Paul moved to Bozeman, Montana in 1970 and has resided here ever since. Paul worked in the Maintenance Department at the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital when he first came to Bozeman. Governor Schweitzer personally visited Paul in his home to thank him for his service to his country during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Paul will always be remembered for his sacrifice for our country. Paul enjoyed football, basketball and putting together model cars and jigsaw puzzles. He was a longtime member of the American Legion, Eagles, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Paul was a veteran, hero and a friend to many. He will be missed dearly. Memorials in Paul#8217;s name may be made to the American Legion, P.O. Box 936, Bozeman, MT 59771. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 26, 2010 at Dahl Funeral Chapel.
