Patricia “Pretty Patty” Ellyn Peterson passed away in her sleep on December 17, 2024 at her home in West Yellowstone, Montana. Patty was born in Greenbush, Minnesota to Harold and Joan Peterson of Middle River, Minnesota. She grew up in Middle River on a family operated dairy farm. Patty attended Middle River public school where she enjoyed playing trumpet, trombone and tuba along with anything else the director put in front of her. Always busy and involved in the community, Patty enjoyed playing volleyball and working in her mother's restaurant The Chuck Wagon Cafe. After graduating, Patty went on to attend college in Crookston, Minnesota and then Mayville State University where she obtained a teaching degree specializing in early childhood and special education.
After working for Headstart Patty moved to Winnemucca, NV where she was a kindergarten and special ed teacher at Winnemucca Grammar School. Patty spent her career as a dedicated advocate for children, always keeping kids foremost in her heart and mind.
A lifelong learner, Patty continued attending workshops and classes throughout her life, eventually earning a master’s degree in addiction counseling. Patricia very much enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She was a lover and a daydreamer. Patty's heart and faith were the compass that guided her throughout life. As a supporter of all people, she used her natural wit, humor and beautiful smile to encourage and support anyone who needed an extra boost to reach for the stars and succeed.
Patty was passionate about everyone having an equal opportunity to follow their hearts and live out their dreams. Somehow, she gave us all the strength and power to move forward and overcome the impossible.
Her gypsy soul was never in one place too long. She enjoyed moving around, seeing new things, meeting new people and discovering herself along the way.
Patty loved the Minnesota Twins, The MN Vikings, California Coast, Lefse, Rugamoke, Harold’s scalloped potatoes and all holidays; especially Christmas and July 4th. She loved to plan and photograph all celebrations. Oftentimes, she would show up with a trunk full of toys, special K bars, sparklers and games to treat all the kids in attendance. We always knew when Patty’s car came up the road because the kids would shout with joy and run to greet her.
Patricia Ellyn was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Joan Peterson, her brother Mark Peterson and grandparents.
Patty is survived by sister-in-law Marlene Peterson, brothers Scott (Therese) Peterson and Brian (Terri) Peterson sister Kimberly (Jason) Howell.
A family friendly celebration of life will be held at the Community protestant church in West Yellowstone, Montana at 11 AM on January 4, 2025. There will be a small gathering at the church after the ceremony where lunch will be served.
Inurnment will be held at a later date in Holt Minnesota.
