Norman Clyde Clark

December 7, 1930 — March 7, 2016

Norman Clark was born in Townsend, MT on December 7, 1930. His family moved to the Silver Star area when he was young, and he attended school in Whitehall. Norman’s parents, Web and Lena, had a dairy farm. Norm grew up fishing and hunting with his father, brother and friends. These would remain his favorite pastimes for the rest of his life. Norm graduated from Whitehall High School, and in 1952, he married Nan Wellman Clark. They had 5 children; in 1986 they divorced.

Norm was drafted into the Army and served in the Artillery in El Paso Texas. When he returned home to Montana he left the ranch and took a job at Miner’s Dairy in Butte. He then took a job in the Berkeley Pit in Butte, where he worked for most of his life. Occasionally he worked for other employers: Montana State Prison, Anaconda Smelter, Whitehall School (bus driver and janitor), Yellowstone Park, the Forest Service in Whitehall, and logging, but he always returned to the Butte mines. Norm retired from Montana Resources in 1992.

In 1987 Norman married Sharon Nelson Clark, and they lived on the Galen Campus at Warm Springs for a while, then in Anaconda for 23 years and 3 years in Helena. While living in Anaconda they ran a successful hardwood furniture manufacturing business for 16 years and sold furniture to stores across the state of Montana.

Norm was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Weston Clark and ex-wife Nan Wellman Clark. He is survived by his wife Sharon, and children: Wayne Clark, Three Forks, Wanda (Ken) Hauer, Livingston, Tim (Karyl) Clark, Missoula, Todd (Karen) Clark, Butte and Patty Brinson, Huntingberg, Indiana; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Norm always had good stories to tell and looked forward to the next opportunity to fish, hunt or travel. Donations may be made to: Pintler Pets, P.O. Box 1204, Anaconda, MT 59711. A memorial service will be held at a later date in June.
