Mona Jeanne King Morgan

Boeman

Mona Jeanne King Morgan passed away on September 9, 2024 of natural causes; she was 88 years old.

Mona was born on April 17, 1936, in Newark, New Jersey. Mona grew up in Summit, New Jersey. She had an active childhood with her two brothers and sister. She spent time swimming and playing her favorite sport, tennis. She graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York City with a nursing degree. She was one of the original traveling nurses as she worked in New Orleans, Oklahoma City, New York City, and spent 9 months on a mission trip to a village in the mountains of Guatemala.

She traveled west from New Jersey with her friend Sally. She ended up taking a nursing job at the hospital in Ennis, Montana where she met Tom Morgan. They would marry in 1968 and had three children. They would later divorce, but remained friends and co-parents throughout their lives.

Mona worked as a nurse for almost 50 years. She worked in many different nursing situations from large urban hospitals to the small hospitals in Ennis and Sheridan, MT, to the local clinic in Belgrade, as a hospice nurse, and at nursing homes in Churchill and Bozeman. She truly lived her faith and used her gifts as a care provider in 1995 when she lived and volunteered at Covenant House, a shelter serving homeless children and teens, in New York City.

Mona loved gardening, reading, movies, chocolate, and tea with milk. She was a regular spectator at her granddaughter’s sporting events. She was a devout Catholic who could be found praying every morning. She attended mass every week, was a eucharistic minister for the sick and regularly attended prayer group.

One of Mona’s other great loves was travel. She embarked on trips including a safari in Africa, adventures in Egypt and the Holy Land and visiting Ireland and Scotland. She also accompanied the local bishop on a trip back to Guatemala to visit missions.

Mona is survived by her three children and their families: Jenny (Jason) and children Sarah and Alex; Peter (Dana) and children Riley, Ali (Jess) and Lanie; and Tim. She also has one great-granddaughter, Parker. She is survived by her two brothers, Frank and Brian (Heidi), and sister, Gail (Harvey). She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Mona, sister-in-law Pat King and former husband, Tom Morgan.

Services for Mona will be held on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 220 West Main, Bozeman, Montana. A luncheon will be served in the church basement following the services.

Mona was feisty until the end and loved life. She had a great sense of humor and was loved by family, friends, patients, and caregivers. She will be missed, but will always live on in our memories and hearts.
