Michael J Wright

Michael (Mike) J. Wright, age 71, of Bozeman, MT passed away on April 17, 2017 from complications of COPD.



Mike was born on November 21, 1945 in Cut Bank, MT to Donald and Bernadine Wright. In 1958 his only sibling, Gina, was born. Mike spent the first 12 years of his life in Browning, MT on the Blackfeet Reservation, followed by many moves. Upon leaving Browning, the family lived in Great Falls, Glasgow, Bozeman, and Miles City. Mike eventually chose to settle in Bozeman.



Mike graduated from Bozeman High School in May of 1965. He attended Montana State University for two years studying finance. In January of 1967 Mike joined the Army, was honorably discharged in January of 1970, and remained in the Army Reserve until January 1973.



In 1975 Mike met Linda Athens-Kemp and her two children, Sherrie and Scott. They were married on June 25, 1976, and subsequently made a life in Bozeman.



Mike was employed by the Montana Department of Highways for 31 years, and retired in January 1994 at the early age of 49 after purchasing military time.



Mikey was passionate about guns and hunting, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and playing pool. He kept meticulous records of all of his activities, and his wardrobe consisted strictly of Harley-Davidson shirts, vests and hats.



Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Bernadine Wright, and his wife Linda Atkins-Kemp. He is survived by his sister Gina Wiest (Jeff) and his nieces Holly Wiest and Samantha Wiest, all of Helena.



We want to give special thanks to all who helped Mike during the last couple of years as his health declined. We are so grateful to Leland, Erica, Von and Bobby.



Cremation has taken place. Services will be held April 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Dahl’s Funeral and Cremation Chapel, 300 Highland Blvd, Bozeman.



In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Rifle Association.
