Marvin Eugene Crane of Bozeman passed away from natural causes on December 21st 2008 with his loving family by his side. This world was blessed with Marvin on December 29, 1923 to Isaac Newton and Elizabeth Crane. Raised mainly in the Tobacco Root Mountains, above Laurin, Marvin enjoyed his youth filled with childhood adventures and attending elementary school at robbers Roost. After graduating from Sheridan High School, Marvin enlisted in the Army serving our country honorably during World War II, earning his Purple Heart for the million dollar wound he received by claiming to know which end he should keep pointed towards the other side. Marvin married Clarice Smith in Virginia City in 1953, and spent the following 24 years between ranching in the Ruby Valley and doing mechanic work for the Anaconda Company in Butte. Together, Marvin and Clarice had five children, Smiley, Newton Kathy Laurie and Kelly. On February 28, 1980, Marvin had one of his happiest days when he was blessed with his wife Hazel Bugni and her most special and loving family of Butte. They spent these past many years mainly in Bozeman managing the Continental Motor Inn and taking the best care not only of each other but also of their very large families. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Laverne and Francis Crane, son Newton Laverne and most recently grandson Joshua Miller. Those of us left behind loving and missing him are his wife and best friend Hazel, her daughter, Jeannie (Dave) Wright, their children, Jodi (Ace) Mailey, Jimmer, Bob, Jason and David. Daughter, Patsy (Mike) Carlin, their children; Stacey (Bryan) Peterson and Ryan (Jarrod) Robinson all of Bozeman. Marvin#8217;s children Smiley of Hawaii, Kathy Montgomery of Washington, Laurie Armstrong of Oregon, Kelly (Clint) Burkhart of Bozeman along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marvin, Dad, Papa Marvin, we will always remember you for your kind heart, gentle soul, strong convictions, great generosity, sincerity, infectious laugh, wonderful stories and comforting presence. We have lost a wonderful man holding on to the belief that he and all of his greatness have gone on to rest in a better place.
