Marie Hager

July 28, 1929 — August 23, 2010

Marie Svejkovsky Hager died peacefully in her home on Monday, August 23, with her children and grandchildren at her bedside, after a courageous battle with cancer. Marie was born July 28, 1929, the daughter of Edward Clara Svejkovsky in Belgrade, MT at the family home. She spent her early childhood in Belgrade and then moved to Livingston, MT. Her family later moved to Gardner, MT where her father worked for the Yellowstone Park Company. When she was a teenager the family moved back to Livingston so the children could attend high school, as there was no high school in Gardner at that time. Marie attended Park County High, where she met the love of her life, Rudy, at a rival football game between Bozeman and Livingston. They were married November 16, 1947. They made their home together in Bozeman for the remainder of their lives. Marie was preceded in death by Rudy, her husband of almost 50 years. In addition she was preceded by her parents, Edward Clara Svejkovsky, her sister Catherine Weir, and brothers Edward and Bill, as well as an infant son grandson. She is survived by her children, Dianne Ducello (John), Robb Hager (Laura) and Cheri Larsen (Jim). Also surviving her are her grandchildren, Michael Ducello (Marla), Diesta Johnson (Kelly), Robbie Hager (Julie), Shawn Larsen, Tana Hager, Skyler Hager Amy Hager. In addition she is survived by eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, a brother-in-law, Frank Hager (Lyla), and aunt Margaret Svejkovsky. Her special companions, Oreo and Buddy, will miss her greatly. Marie was always a wonderful and loving mother and friend. She was devoted to her family, and was always there when needed. She loved sewing, quilting, knitting and crochet. Marie was a wonderful china paint artist, and her handiwork will be forever cherished by her family. She loved all animals and birds, and rescued many dogs and cats throughout her lifetime. A special thanks to Hospice for their tender care, to Dr. Schoene and his nurse, Debbie, for their care and concern, and to her close neighbors, Ken Priscilla Walcheck, for their years of kindness and concern. Memorials are suggested to a humane society or organization. Private family graveside services will be held.
