Margaret "Mugs" Atkins Huntsman passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024. Mugs was born on July 23, 1937, the youngest of seven children to Orba and Nona Atkins. Mugs lived in Bozeman her entire life and graduated from the “Original” Gallatin High School in 1955. In January of 1956, Mugs married her High School sweetheart, Glenn Huntsman. Being the big sports fans they were, on their honeymoon they traveled to Butte to watch the Bozeman Hawk/ Butte Bulldogs basketball game.
Mugs worked for the First National Bank and TOI Theaters. Her longest position was working as a bookkeeper for DW associates. When that company was sold, she went to work for Bottomline Solutions where she worked until her retirement, Mugs volunteered for many years at the Heart of the Valley as a “cat cuddler.”
Mugs’ greatest joy, besides her love of baseball and football, was her family. Glenn and Mugs had three children, who were blessed to have the best parents ever, Cindy, Bruce, and Kelly. All three still reside in the town they grew up in. Mugs is also survived by her grandkids, Kodi Huntsman and Shane Huntsman (Jessie Andrew); her cousin, Sally Bourrie; and sister-in-law, Ivy Huntsman.
Mugs was preceded in death, by just 10 short months, by her husband, Glenn. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Orba and Nona; her sisters, Betty, Audrey, Margie, and Donna; and her brothers, Neal and Bob.
Mugs loved watching the Bozeman Hawks, the MSU Bobcats, the Bozeman Bucks, old westerns and watching her garden and flowers grow. For the better part of 20 years, Cindy, Kelly, and Mugs would travel to different cities (mostly Denver) and watch pro baseball, football, and hockey games. Mugs was a boisterous fan for the teams she loved. Her daughters remember being at a Denver Bronco football game and looking over the edge of the stadium. When their mom asked what they were looking at, the girls said, the security tent because we need to know where to pick you up from after the game. Cindy and Kelly treasure the memories of times spent with their mom.
Mugs was a feisty lady who had a good sense of humor, quick wit and made everyone feel comfortable around her. As one friend said, ‘How could you not like her?’ Another friend knew she was part of the family when Mugs hit her in the face with a pillow.
We can’t even begin to say enough about the kindness and compassion of the staff at the Billings Clinic Broadwater Intermediate Care, where she was lucky enough to have spent the final three months of her life at. Mugs had some wonderful friends, and no one could have cared for her more. We will forever be grateful for the love they showed towards her and us.
Mugs had a wonderfully full life with many adventures, stories, and good friends. She had a family that loved her completely, and a husband whom she loved, who loved her in return and was able to spend a lifetime with. We are comforted in knowing they are together once more
Per Mugs wishes, no service will be held. Since there was no celebration of Glenn's life due to Mug's health issues, there will be a get together next spring/ summer to celebrate both of their lives. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Mugs' honor to one of her favorite organizations: Bozeman Senior Center, 807 N. Tracy, Bozeman, MT 59715; Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter, PO Box 11390, Bozeman, MT 59719; Hope and the Holidays, PO Box 11891, Bozeman, MT 59719. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.dahlcares.com.
