Marcella Nadine Caltvedt Scheer, 89, died on Thursday, January 7, 2016. She was born on April 5, 1926 in Marshalltown, IA, to Laila Mildred (Henderson) and Silas Walter Caltvedt. Her father died when she was 10 years old.
On June 25, 1947 she married Alfred Carl Scheer in Nevada, IA. They were married 68 1/2 years until his death two weeks ago.
Marcy was well known in Gallatin Valley quilting circles, and made many wonderful quilts. She found wonder and beauty everywhere in the world and brought joy to many who knew her. All of her life she was an artist employing media of quilts, stained glass, sewing, cloth dyeing, macramé, embroidery, decoupage and more. She played the accordion and instilled a love of music in her children; many of them are musicians. When she was younger she and Al hiked in the Bridger, Madison and Tobacco Root ranges. As a family they explored Montana ghost towns and she collected old bottles, insulators, and glass. She raised beautiful flowers and cooked, canned and froze the bounty of their vegetable gardens. She loved to ride her bicycle and feel the wind in her hair.
She is survived by daughters Karen Gray, Moscow, ID and Janet Savage (Neal), Fremont, NE; sons and daughters-in-law Gary and Karen (Kradolfer), Pullman, WA and Joe and Carol (Ford) Puyallup, WA; and son Timothy of Bozeman; plus many grandchildren, great-grand children, and a great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson Nicholas Scheer.
A celebration of Marcella's and Alfred's lives will be held for family and friends on April 4 at 1:00 pm at the Holiday Inn in Bozeman. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.dahlcares.com.
