Marc Dayton Keyes, 74, of Bozeman passed away on May 15, 2023. Cremation has been entrusted to Dahl Funeral & Cremation.
Marc was born on January 29, 1949, in Ellensburg, WA to Wendell and Lois (Kaynor) Keyes. Raised with three other siblings in a tight family, he would go on to join the military shortly after high school.
Marc was a Vietnam veteran in the United States Navy. He proudly served aboard the U.S.S Joseph Strauss (DDG-16) and the U.S.S Midway (CVA-41), where he was responsible for the electrical systems that operated the aircraft catapults. All of this and more can be read for yourself, as his military career has been documented in the Veteran Heritage Project’s book; Since you Asked: Veterans Share Their Memories, vol. XIV Phoenix Edition I, 2018. Now a part of the Library of Congress’s collection.
A story not in the Library of Congress, but perhaps that should be, is the love story that began in June of 1970. That is when Meg Johnson became Meg Keyes after the two were married. They would go on to raise two daughters together while Marc worked successfully for many years in the electrical industry.
After retirement he was able to enjoy years of travel and outdoor activities to satisfy his adventurous spirit and love of nature. He had a special fondness for the majestic mountains of Montana.
Marc will be missed by all that were lucky enough to have known him but especially his wife, Meg Keyes; daughters, Teresa (Donovan) Carman and Jennifer (Steve) Metsker; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Gabriel, William, Austin, Anthony, Alexis, Lauren, Matthew, Dominic, and Andrew; siblings, Karen Snyder, Kenneth (Teresa) Keyes, and Gary Keyes; sisters-in-law, Sandy Keyes, Anne Kesler, and Lois Courtney; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Project Healing Waters Inc. at projecthealingwaters.org, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization supporting disabled service members.
