Mackenzie Grace Hatter, 23, of Bozeman, Montana, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024, in Gallatin County.

She was born on April 6th, 2001, to David and Melissa Hatter, also locals of Montana. Mackenzie graduated from Alpharetta High School in May, 2019. She was currently employed at 360 Pet Medical as a Customer Service Representative.

Mackenzie's family describes her as a woman with a heart larger than anyone they had ever met. Her heart not only extended to her family, friends, and loved ones, but also to any animal that needed help. She is most known for being a wonderful dog mom to her Doberman, Kozmo and her Belgian Malinois, Finley.

Mackenzie’s love for animals spread through not only her immediate family, but also extended family. Every family member that has a pet in their home was found and rescued by Mackenzie. These thankful pups she gifted, and their family members, include Remi (a pit lab mix), to her brother, Jacob Hatter; Ollie (a pit lab mix), to her sister, Carly Rieger; Juni (a mini Australian Shepard), to her Nanny and Papaw (Ann and Carl Riker); and Raven (a border collie-golden retriever mix), to her parents, David and Melissa Hatter. She didn’t know it, but in her own way, she gave a lasting piece of her soul to each of her loved ones through these animals before her passing.

In addition to her love of animals, her hobbies included winning any and all karaoke contests, reading every book written by Sarah J. Maas, leading all efforts in organizing family board game nights, snowboarding at Big Sky Resort, binge watching Harry Potter, learning to fluently speak Na’vi, and traveling to amusement parks such as Universal or Disney.

Mackenzie is survived by her parents, David and Melissa Hatter; siblings, Carly (Jarrod) Rieger, and Jacob (Molly Gullo) Hatter; grandparents, Carl and Ann Riker, and Phil and Sharon Hatter; and her two dogs, Kozmo and Finley.

Visitation and a time of remembrance will be held Wednesday, July 3, beginning at 5:30 p.m., at Dahl Funeral and Cremation Service, 300 Highland Boulevard, Bozeman,

Mackenzie was a true lover of flowers. However, her love of animals ran just as deep, so the family suggests for those wising to make a contribution in Mackenzie's honor that you consider the Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter, 1549 East Cameron Bridge Road, Bozeman, MT, 59718.
