Lucy Ellen Tackle, 92, of Bozeman, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011 at her residence at Birchwood in the Hillcrest Neighborhood. She was born August 11, 1919 in Porterville, CA, to Charles and Beulah (McCurry) Crofoot. Lucy was raised and educated in Porterville. Following her graduation from High School she studied voice at Bible college in San Francisco. While living in San Francisco, she married Bill Emery who was second chair violist with the San Francisco Symphony. Bill died on VE day while serving our country. Lucy was working as a bookkeeper when she met David Tackle. David had graduated in Forestry Science at the University of California Berkeley and was beginning his long career in the Forest Service. They were married on December 28, 1949 in Carmel, CA. Lucy and David lived in Northern California from 1949 to 1951, Odgen, UT 1951 to 1954, in Missoula, MT from 1954 to 1960, in Bozeman, MT from 1960 to 1965 (where David established the Forestry Sciences Laboratory at MSU), in Olympia, WA from 1965 to 1968, Beaverton, OR from 1968 to 1971, Washington DC from 1971 to 1976, Ft Collins, CO from 1976 to 1992 (David passed away in 1992). Lucy continued to live in Ft. Collins until 2001, when she moved back to Bozeman to be near her son Jack. The greatest joy in Lucy#8217;s life was her family, David and Jack. Lucy moved to Aspen Point when it first opened in 2001. Lucy was a talented vocalist and shared her talent with her church #8220;First Presbyterian#8221;. When Jack was young she enjoyed her role as a Boy Scout Den Mother. She was a member of the Gardening Club in Virginia, Oregon and Colorado, specializing in growing Bonsai Trees. Lucy loved animals. Many residents at Aspen Point may remember her little white dog #8220;Keisha#8221;. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, husband David; brothers Maurice and Leverett; sisters Dorothy and Flora. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jack Tackle and Patricia Ann Melehes-Tackle of Victor, ID and Bozeman, MT, step- grandchildren Kyle Melehes of Ogden, UT and Paige Melehes of Ft. Collins, CO; Huntley Dornan of Santa Barbara, CA and Conrad Dornan of New York, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made in Lucy#8217;s name to Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter P.O.
