Loyce C. Dahl

September 25, 1930 — April 8, 2008

Loyce Constance Leland was born in Williston, ND on September 25, 1930. She was the oldest of four children who were raised on a farm in rural Montana. Loyce was always a very strong and driven woman. At the age of 21, she became one of the first women in her family to graduate from college. She became a nurse and used her boundless compassion and knowledge to help her patients through their difficult times. Her care was always given with a warm smile and a gentle pat on the arm. October 27, 1951 marks the day she married the man of her dreams, Einar Dahl. He swept her off her feet at a community dance and they continued to two-step their way through life on a cloud of love, laughter and happiness. Loyce Dahl was one of the lucky ones. She married her love and her best friend and the deep love they shared was impossible to miss. Although Loyce loved nursing, her true love was her family. 1952 was the year that marked the beginning of her wonderful journey into motherhood. She was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Deborah, and two handsome sons, Jonathan and Ted. Her motherly love also extended to Bobbie Makelky, who was like her fourth child. As a result of this limitless love, Bobbie#8217;s children became a wonderful addition to her long list of grandchildren. Loyce was the epitome of the perfect grandma. Aprons, baked goods, cuddles and animated storytelling accentuated every experience she shared with her grandchildren. Although she had a total of nine grandchildren, she had enough love to go around equally. All of her grandchildren share many memories together with Loyce and Einar and those memories will carry over for generations to come. Loyce was also blessed with six great-grandchildren. Some were lucky enough to #8220;hop down the bunny trail#8221; but all received her profound love. In 1986, Loyce was diagnosed with a genetic strain of emphysema. Her illness boggled even the best doctors in the country. She struggled through the disease for over twenty years. Remarkably, Loyce was never one to wallow in self-pity or dwell on her misfortune. Her undying faith in the Lord helped her remain positive and hopeful. Her upbeat attitude was contagious as was her brilliant smile. She had an amazing ability to light up the room with her presence. Loyce Dahl was a woman capable of inspiring people without ever trying. On April 8th, at 3 a.m. Loyce peacefully drifted away. Her struggle is over, however, we will all miss her warm, thoughtful, loving existence. Loyce is survived by her sisters, Marion Crane and Jeanette Konig, of Glendive, MT. Her children Deb and Pat Hanen (Bozeman), Jonathan and Rosemary Dahl (Beach, ND), Ted and Sue Dahl (Molt, MT) remain to continue the legacy for generations to come. The family of Loyce would like to thank Dr. Persson and Kim, as well as the E.R. nurses for their devoted care, BDH Hospice for easing her discomfort in the end, all of the amazing people at Spring Meadows, and to Anka for being such a true friend. The family would also like any memorials to be sent to AlphaNet, a research facility looking into the causes and cures for Loyce#8217;s unusual strain of emphysema. AlphaNet, Inc. 2937 SW 27th Ave., Suite 305, Coconut Grove, FL 33133.
