Lois Stewert

Lois Katherine Stewart, age 85, of Bozeman, MT passed away on October 29th, 2016. Lois was born to parents Arthur and Katherine Fitzloff on September 8th, 1931 in Fargo, ND where she was raised alongside her sister Gail. Lois attended Fargo High School where she participated in the Girls State Leadership Program and earned her diploma. Following her successful completion of high school, she attended North Dakota State University, graduating with her Bachelors degree. Lois accepted a position working as a Teacher in Fresno, CA. After two years residing in California, Lois returned to the midwest and taught school in Rapid City, SD. There she married Donald Stewart on Oct. 15, 1955. Lois had met Donald during her attendance at North Dakota State University in Fargo. The couple later welcomed the birth of their first child, Kaye Stewart in 1956. In 1957, the family moved to Fargo briefly, and then to Bozeman, MT in 1958. Three additional children, Todd, Troy and Beth, joined the Stewart family and spent their formative years in Bozeman, MT and Aberdeen, SD. While in Bozeman, Lois returned to school earning her Master’s in Education from Montana State University. Lois and Donald and the family moved to Aberdeen in 1974 and they returned to retire permanently to Bozeman in 1985.



Lois was an active participant in her community. She enjoyed her women’s organizations, including P.E.O. (50+ years), AAUW and Mad-Gals. Lois also enjoyed helping the elderly, regularly delivering books to nursing and assisted living homes amidst her own interests of reading, embroidery, and sewing. She will be most remembered for her adoration of her four wonderful children as well as her wry sense of humor.



Lois is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Donald. She is survived by her sister Gail McDermott (John) of Spooner, Wisc.; daughters Kaye (Ray) Stewart-Hicks of Denver, Colo. and Beth (Dan) Siegienski of St. Louis Park, Minn.; sons Todd (Nadine) Stewart of Martinez, Calif. Troy Stewart of Ashburn, Va.; brother-in-law Sye Leer of Albuquerque, N.M.; and three grandchildren, Katrina and Sandra Stewart, and Kelly Siegienski.
