Lillian Dixon

December 3, 1915 — February 26, 2011

Lillian Ruth Louise Dixon, 94, of Bozeman, passed away February 26, 2011. She was born December 3, 1915 in Livingston, MT, a daughter to Lillian Fraelaide Volk and Henry Volk. Lillian#8217;s early years were spent in Clyde Park. Her family moved to Livingston during her high school years, where she graduated from Park High. Lillian went to beauty school in Butte, MT; she owned and operated her own Beauty Salon, #8220;Lorraine#8217;s#8221;, for over 35 years. Lillian worked very hard making her salon very successful. She had many loyal customers and devoted a great deal of time to do many of the ladies#8217; hair even after they were no longer able to go to her shop. On October 26, 1951, Lillian married Lawrence A. Dixon; they made their home in Bozeman where they spent 41 years together. They were a devoted couple and spent many weekends together exploring Montana. Lillian was an active and devoted member of Holy Rosary Catholic Parish. She was a member of the St. Claire Circle and also a Forester, serving as a president for at least 2 terms. She was entrusted to launder and iron the priest vestments. Her family remembers her for her wonderful cooking which she shared so generously, cooking many dinners, whether for holidays or just to get us together. Many of her recipes are still family favorites and will be passed down as hers. She was also a very avid gardener and her flower beds were unsurpassed. She grew gorgeous iris and her clematis was a spectacular sight. Most of all her family remembers her for her generosity growing up. There were always new dresses, shoes, and hats for the girls at Easter. She provided the opportunity for piano lessons and she and Lawrence took the kids on many day adventures, including trips to the drive-in. She continued to share these gifts with our children and was a wonderful baby sitter for the grand nieces and nephews which she adored. She is fondly remembered as our #8220;Aunt Linny#8221; and she will always have a very special place in our hearts. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, her beloved son #8220;Jimmy#8221; and her husband Lawrence. Lillian is survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends, including her dear friends who helped her in her later years. Memorials may be made in her name to the Foresters, 210 S. Grand St, Bozeman, MT 59715. Vigil service will be held Sunday March 6, 5:00 pm at Dahl Funeral Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 7, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Bozeman Catholic Community Center (SE Corner of Olive and Grand). Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
