Kathleen “Katie” Theresa (Olsen) Madden

Kathleen “Katie” Theresa (Olsen) Madden, 77, of Bozeman, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015. She was born November 8, 1937 in Great Falls, MT to Edward Wilmer and Katherine Lenore (Koles) Olsen. At a very early age, Katie moved to a family owned ranch in Bridger Canyon. Her family later moved to Bear Canyon and Katie graduated from Gallatin High. Katie married and had three children; Zane, Patty, and Scott. In the early years she was a homemaker raising her children. She worked as a custodian at South Hedges Hall at MSU for 15 years. Katie’s main occupation during her life was as an antique dealer. She worked in the profession for 30 years and became a sought after expert. She also organized the Fall Festival Antique Shop at the Bozeman Senior Center. She gave a lot of her time and talent making blankets for children in the Gallatin Valley and for Missions from Bozeman to Mexico. Katie was known as Gramma “Dog” because she was an Ice Dogs fan. She baked thousands of cookies for the team and its support staff. Katie’s interests were hockey games, playing pinochle and keno, dancing, auctions, making homemade candy, her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Zane and her special dog and companion “Lucky”. Survivors include daughter Patty Madden of Bozeman, MT; her son Scott (Juli) Madden of Livingston, MT; 7 grandchildren Alex Madden of Bozeman, MT, Helen (Ben), Katie and Justine (Andy) Madden all of Florida, Tristan, Jarrod, and Dusty all of Livingston, MT.; 10 great grandchildren Vlad, Ozzi, Drae, Bobby, Chris, Isaac and Mikey, Ashley, Amber, and Shannon; 2 sisters Cecelia Goodman of Bozeman, MT, Beth (Pradyuman) Raol of Spokane, WA, and her brother John E. Olsen of Hilo, Hawaii. Katie had many close friends including Maggie Heisick and Judy Figgins of Bozeman, MT. Special Family Remembrances: “You are an amazing woman who beat the odds for many years. Your loving and caring nature and words of wisdom were a true inspiration to me. The twinkle in your eyes and the smile on your face were sheer magic. God bless you for all the memories. The funeral will be held 1:00 pm, Sunday March 29, 2015 at Dahl Funeral Chapel, followed by internment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
