June Metcalf Crawford passed away on December 28, 2016 at Bridger Healthcare Community following a brief illness. June was born July 7, 1924 to Willie (Bob) and Letha Doyan Metcalf at their homestead near Buffalo, Wyoming. The family moved to Montana in 1927 and eventually settled in the Gallatin Valley on Sourdough Creek.
As a World War II veteran, June was very proud of her service to our country. She served in the WAVES where she was stationed in Washington state until the war ended. After her discharge, she worked for the Crown Zellerbach Paper Company in Washington, and then she transferred to San Francisco, California, where she worked her way up within the company.
She moved back to Bozeman in 1989 when she retired. June enjoyed her own home and her companion dog Brandy, taking care of her yard, and living independently with the special help of her good neighbor, Maurice Quanbeck. She served as an active volunteer at the Museum of the Rockies and the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital for many years.
June was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Katherine and husband Jack Nash, brother Robert and wife Peggy Metcalf, and brother Roy Metcalf all of Bozeman. She is survived by two brothers, John (Ruth) Metcalf of Bozeman and Perry Metcalf of Green Valley, Arizona, sister-in-law Carol Metcalf of Bozeman, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Bridger Healthcare Community for the wonderful, loving care June received during her short stay at their facility.
At June’s request, there will be no funeral service. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
