Joseph Raymond Kunda, 89 of Bozeman, passed away May 18, 2016. He was born on the family farm in the Polish Community of St. Philip, MT on March 15, 1927 to John & Dominika (Della) Kunda. He was raised and educated in St. Philip, MT.
At an early age, he joined the United States Navy. He was a Navy SeaBee. Following his honorable discharge he joined the Navy Reserve, serving 20 plus years. In addition he worked for various local transport companies and held a license to buy, sell and transport livestock. He also worked nights for TOI Theatres.
On October 27, 1951, he married J. Margaret Baker in Glendive, MT. The couple made their home in Glendive until moving to Bozeman, MT in 1963.
Joseph was a Knight of Columbus and a devout member of Rosary and Resurrection Catholic Parishes. He spent his free time camping, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, and watching his sons & grandchildren play ball. He will be remembered for his faith and devotion to his family. Even though to many, he may have been a curmudgeon, he would have been the first one to give you the shirt off his back; if he thought you were in need.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two infant siblings, his daughter Vickie, sisters: Marie Buck & Theresa Kuntz and his brother Laurence Kunda.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, J. Margaret; children: Carol (Don Wirtz) of Bozeman, Deb Mus (Roger Bair) of Seeky Lake, Brad Kunda (Traci Anderson) and (Sue Kunda) of Corvallis, OR, Jim Kunda (Debby) of Snohomish, WA and Gail Whitmire of Gallatin Gateway and Grandchildren: Jessica, Joe, Alison, Monica, Holly, Christopher, Kerri, Amanda, Katie, Eli, Amber and Stacey. His great grandchildren: Mason and a soon to arrive baby girl. He also leaves behind his siblings: Dominic (Mary) Kunda, Frances (Ben Elmer), Charles (Diane) Kunda, Dolores (Martin Steiner) and Pauline Kenneway and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 1-3:30 PM at Dahl Funeral Chapel with a Vigil service to follow at 4 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Resurrection Catholic Parish. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
