Joseph A. Saner

November 22, 1956 — August 27, 2017

Joseph Albert Saner, 60, died August 27, 2017, unexpectedly at his home in Bozeman, MT.

Joe Saner was born in Bozeman, MT, on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 1956 to H. Albert Saner and Clarice Morford Saner. Joe attended Holy Rosary Catholic Elementary School, Wilson Middle School, Bozeman Junior High School, and Bozeman High School, graduating in 1975. Joe also attended Montana State University.

After attending MSU, Joe worked in a variety of capacities in the oil and construction related fields which took him to Glendive, MT, Casper and Evanston, WY, Bakersfield, CA, and finally returned him to Bozeman. While working, Joe was an active member of the Bakersfield Kiwanis Club, as well as his local Catholic parishes. One of the highlights as a Kiwanis Club member was his participation in decorating a float for the Rose Bowl Parade. He also enjoyed volunteering as a Kiwanis sponsor for the local high school Key Club. He took great joy working with the young people. Joe was an active member of Resurrection Parish when he moved back to Bozeman.

Joe’s greatest pleasures in life were spending time with family and friends, and hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, snow skiing and water skiing, and looking for adventure. Joe is known for being an avid sports fan. He could be seen at all the Bozeman High School sporting events and Legion Baseball, cheering on each team and cheering just a little bit louder for the children of his many friends. He was especially proud of his niece and nephews who participated in Babe Ruth baseball, Little Guy football, girls’ travel softball, Helena Capital football, wrestling, and softball. He loved watching his brother-in-law coach Carroll Football, his nephews play football, and his niece play softball at Carroll as well. He was diligent about attending every event in which they participated. He delighted in his role as Uncle Joe to his nieces and nephews and all the young people he encountered through their friends and his friends. If he was not at a sporting event you could find him fishing with friends and family. Later in life he enjoyed teaching even more than catching!

Joe was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister Beth Saner, FSPA of Chicago, Ill, brother Bill (Jan) Saner of El Cerrito, Ca, sister Barb (Jim) Hogan, Helena, MT, his two nieces, Jamie (Liam) Saner Kelly, Brittany Hogan, and his four nephews Steven (Keely) Saner, Anthony (Sarah) Hogan, Adam Hogan, James Hogan, and 5 great nieces and nephews, Aidan, Georgia, Graham Saner, Colleen, and Rory Kelly.
