Jon Olaf Vestre passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. His warmth, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones will forever be cherished.
Jon was born in Whitefish, Montana, to Ruby and Olaf Vestre. He grew up alongside his loving brother, Brian, who fondly recalls, "Jon was a loving brother who would do anything for anyone." The two spent their formative years in Great Falls before Jon graduated from C. M. Russel High School. His passion for learning led him to Montana State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree, followed by a Master's in Social Work from Loyola University in Chicago.
Returning to Montana, Jon dedicated his career to helping others, working for the State of Montana in Welfare and Social Services until his retirement. His deep sense of service extended beyond his profession---Jon proudly served in the Montana National Guard for 20 years, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Jon married the love of his life, Beverly Spoja, in Helena, where they built a beautiful life together, raising their children: Josh, Nicole, Jaron, Chris, Anna, and Kelly. A devoted father and grandfather, Jon never missed an opportunity to support his children's and grandchildren's activities. Whether at a sporting event or a dance recital, he was a constant presence---often with a large soda in hand, pacing the walkways with anticipation. His love for sports was evident not only in the stands but also on the field, where he proudly pitched for his beloved softball team, "Motherlode."
Above all, Jon was a man of kindness, generosity, and joy. His booming laughter, warm smile, and signature bowl of ice cream shared with family will be among the many treasured memories he leaves behind.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Olaf Vestre, and his beloved son, Josh Vestre. He is survived by his devoted wife, Beverly Spoja; his brother, Brian Vestre; and his children, Nicole Edmonson, Jaron Spoja and his wife Angela Spoja, Chris Spoja and his wife Debbie Spoja, Anna Spoja, and Kelly Spoja Buckbee and her husband Phillip Buckbee. Jon was a cherished grandfather to Chase Vestre, Sydney Lovato, JJ Spoja, Sophia Spoja, Trever Spoja, Payton Spoja, Yale Spoja, Avary Spoja, Malea Avery, Justin Massey, Luke Buckbee, Kiara Savannah, Ashlynn Surber, Emma Vestre, Rosie Joy, and Peyton Joy. Jon was also a proud great-grandfather to Manny Lovato, Estella Lovato, and Bowin Boily.
Jon's legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
