John Victor Parsons

February 1, 1941 — April 2, 2023

John Victor Parsons was born February 1, 1941, to Henry and Minnie Parsons in Bozeman, Montana, making him the youngest of seven brothers and two sisters.

John married Dixie Harris Johnson on January 30, 1975.

In his younger years, John liked to hunt and fish, ride his dirt bike in the mountains, and do a little bit of gold panning.

John learned his trade of hard rock drilling at an early age and worked on many road construction jobs. He went to work for the Tale mine near Cameron, Montana, as a driller, where he worked for more than 25 years. John retired in 2002 from the Talc mine.

After John retired, he and Dixie enjoyed traveling - visiting friends who had moved to other states. Sometimes they would pack up some of their grandchildren and have a fun trip making memories for them.

In 2020 all the drilling dust finally caught up with John and his lungs, which was partly the cause of his passing on April 2, 2023.

John was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Clarence, Clifford, George, Dave, Dick; two sisters, Mae Donahue, Pauline Long; stepdaughter, Kathy (Johnson) Secora; and granddaughter Jessica (Secora) Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie; daughter, Laura O’Kelly; stepdaughter, Jennie Saks (Greg); stepson Jim Johnson (Joan). He was Grandpa John to all the grandchildren, whom he dearly loved, Michael and Matthew O’Kelly; Andrew, Daniel, Corey, Jeff and Bree Saks; Codie, Gus and Callie Secora; Holly, Lacey and Emily Johnson; great-grandchildren Payton and Paige Saks; Kimmy and Keegan Saks; Sam, Olleca, Madeline Severson (Secora); Liam and Ellis Miller (Secora); Hadley and Gabby Secora; Emmery, Ella and Everly Carrol (Secora); Marigold and Sage Matheson (Johnson); great-great-grandson Wesley Saks; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Karen Sasag, Pam and Greg Ostermiller, Sue and Lance Sheldon; and Cheryl and Taylor Bennett.

John’s last words were “Tell my family I love them, but I just can’t breathe anymore”.

There will be a Celebration of John’s Life at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 29th, at 5865 Trail Creek Road, East of Bozeman. Potluck - BYOD, campers and tents are welcome. Hope to see you there.
