Jessie Berdiana Hubbert, 89, of Bozeman, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011. She was born February 12, 1922 in Titonka, Iowa to Henry and Ollie (Meyer) Spear. Jessie grew up in a German Community and learned how to speak English in school. Jessie attended country schools through 8th grade and then graduated from high school near Fenton, Iowa. While in high school she worked as a Nanny, helping families with their infants. In 1943 Jessie moved to Long Beach, CA with her two cousins Tressa and Bernice, three Iowa farm girls to California to help with the war effort. Jessie worked at McDonald Douglas Aircraft as a machinist. Jessie put herself through school to train as a dental assistant. She moved to Bozeman in 1962 and worked for Dr. Ritter until 1982. Jessie was also a master seamstress and rug braider. Jessie earned several state fair awards for her braided rugs. She enjoyed gardening and canning. The oven and the coffee pot were always on. Jessie loved visiting and cooking, she made great pies, apple butters, pickles ect.. Jessie had a cure for everything and it usually involved vinegar. Survivors include cousins Mike and Oleta Kellie of Belgrade, honorary granddaughter Tess Dockery, dear friend Beverly Novick and many other family and friends in Iowa. Visitation from 9 to 10 am, Saturday, October 22, 2011 followed by a funeral service at 10 am at Dahl Funeral Cremation Service, interment to follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her name to Heart of Valley Humane Society, the Raptor Center, The American Legion Post 14 and Paralyzed Veterans.
