Janet Ann Lewis

Janet Ann Lewis, 64, of Bozeman, passed away August 29, 2024. Janet was born at The Doctor's Hospital in Washington, DC on September 4, 1959, to Wilfred and Joan Lloyd Lewis. She grew up in Washington, DC and Kabul, Afghanistan and graduated high school in June 1977 from School without Walls in Washington, DC. She went on to receive a BA in Environmental Science from the University of Montana, Missoula and a Masters in Adult Ed from Montana State University, Bozeman.

Janet met her husband, Daniel L. Mahony at Yellowstone National Park and they were married in Silver Gate, MT on August 11, 1990.

Janet was an Environment Health Tech and worked as a Water Treatment Operator from 1986-2017 for the National Park Service where she retired. She also worked from 2018-2021 for Montana Fish and Wildlife, Hunter Survey and 2022-2024 as a Warehouse Assistant for Montana Gift Corral.

Janet enjoyed kayaking, cross-country skiing, camping, hiking, bird-watching and gardening. Some of her memorable trips were a hiking tour at Point Reyes, CA, multiple trips to the Hiawatha biking trail system and a recent trip to Portugal.

Janet was a highly active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Bozeman and a board member for Social Justice, Inequality, and Reading group. She enjoyed quilting and needlework.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred Lewis and Joan Lloyd Lewis. She is survived by her husband, Daniel L. Mahony; daughter, Katie Mahony Udd; sister, Pamela Lewis Schnitter and brother, Willfred Lewis III.
