James “Jim” Matthew Cox, 47, of Belgrade, passed away November 12, 2015. He was born February 18, 1968 in Beloit, Wisconsin to Rodney and Emily (Samplawski) Cox. He was raised in Beloit until the age of 9, his family then moved to Sheridan, Wyoming. In 1987 Jim and his family moved to Belgrade, where he lived the rest of his life.
Jim loved horses and cattle. He spent many years guiding on horseback in the Gallatin Canyon which he also enjoyed. He especially loved fishing with his daughters on the East Gallatin. He was well known for being very funny, he told long stories and was nicknamed “The Story Teller.” Jim always held a special and deep love for his family. He was a very caring spirit, always supportive of friends and family, loved people of all ages, especially children and they all loved him in return. Even though they were no longer together, he continued a loving friendship with the mother of his girls, Sandie Cox.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Rodney Cox. Survivors include two daughters Anna and Shelbie Cox both of Belgrade; his mother Emily Cox of Belgrade; his sister, Beverly (Bryon) Cox Omdahl of Manhattan; his brother Justin (Heidi Eide) Cox of Belgrade; and his nieces and nephew.
Services will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with the Rosary starting at 10:15 am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Interment of the urn at a later date at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Huron, Wisconsin.
