James “Jim” Llafet Hogin, of Bozeman, passed away November 16, 2014. He was born September 26, 1929 in Clay Center, Kansas to James H. and Louise (Llafet) Hogin. As a child, Jim’s family moved to San Fransisco, CA and then to San Jose, CA where he graduated high school. He served our country as a member of the United States Coast Guard in the 1950s. While in the Coast Guard he met Evelyn “Dixie” Cummins and the couple later married. Jim received a bachelor’s degree from San Jose State College, a master’s degree from Stanford University, and a doctorate from Montana State University in Electrical Engineering. After graduating, he worked at MSU in the Electrical Engineering Research Lab. He then worked for McDonnell-Douglas in Huntington Beach, CA for 26 years and then for Hogin Machine in Gallatin Gateway for 30 years. His work was his passion, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and son, John Hogin. He is survived by: his wife Dixie of Bozeman, MT; son James C. Hogin of Huntington Beach, CA; and grandchildren Jennifer Hogin, of Bozeman, MT, Michael Hogin, of Huntington Beach, CA, Joseph Hogin of Bozeman, MT, and Emily Hogin, of Bozeman, MT. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place in Westminster, CA.
