Iola Hansen

Iola T. Hansen, 96, of Bozeman passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2009. Iola was born to Ole and Anna Eng February 8, 1913 in LeRoy, Minnesota. Iola was baptized and confirmed in the same LeRoy Lutheran Church where she married Clarence Hansen June 3, 1931. She had one son, Wayne L. Hansen of Bozeman. Iola devoted her time to Clarence and his family#8217;s farm located near LeRoy, Minnesota where Clarence was born. The family farm was part of Clarence#8217;s life for 65 years along with Iola for many of those years until they retired in 1972 and moved to Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. Many years while on the farm Iola maintained a flock of 500 laying hens and marketed the eggs. She was gifted with talent of knitting and crocheting. Friends and family were recipients of many beautifully knitted and crocheted sweaters, mittens, scarves and afghans. She also made attractive heavy crocheted rag throw rugs in her spare time. Memorable times were had playing cards with friends and family and telling stories of their past. In 1974 they moved to Livingston, Montana to be near their son, Wayne. Iola has been a resident of Spring Meadows Assisted Living since January, 1998. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Bozeman. Iola was a much-loved Mother, Grandma and Great-grandma and special friend to Dianne Wills and Barbara Deschamps and friend to many others and will be dearly missed. Iola was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, her parents, brothers, Eugene (Pearl) Eng, Olin (Hazel) Eng, and sisters, Grace (Orville) Iverson, and Dorothy (Jens) Hansen. Iola is survived by her son Wayne (Darlene) Hansen of Bozeman, granddaughters, Debra Hansen Taverniti of Bozeman and Jacque Hansen (Hector Hernandez) of San Jose, California and two great-granddaughters, Jessie Taverniti (Pat) Hornbrook of San Diego, California and Marca Taverniti of Bozeman. Iola is survived by one sister, Lucille (Les) Manchester of Vallejo, California as well as many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Hope Lutheran Church, 2152 W. Graf, Bozeman, MT, 59718. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Hope Lutheran Church (new church off S. 19th on Graf) in Bozeman. The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks for the many kindnesses shown during the last several weeks, especially the Bozeman Deaconess Hospice staff and the staff at Springmeadows Assisted Living.
