Hubert Matthew Reid passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on August 16th at the age of 93. Hugh was born in Belgrade January 10th, 1922. He attended Gallatin County High School and went on to attend Montana State College.
During WWII, he enlisted in the Navy and after discharge, married Arleen Nelsen (deceased). He was a man of many hats, including being a theater manager, New York Life agent, toy importer, fireworks importer & contractor, and finally, a specialty lighting importer. He retired at the young age of 92.
He was a five time president of the American Pyrotechnics Association. Over the years, he was an active member of the American Legion, Elks, Eagles, VFW, Chamber of Commerce, Bozeman Exchange Club and was a past First Security Bank director.
After Nixon opened up China for trade relations, Hugh’s company was one of the first American companies to import from China. Hugh was a very creative entrepreneur building many businesses. Hugh & Charlotte made many business trips throughout Asia & Europe. A born problem solver, Hugh greatly enjoyed the many challenges encountered in the daily operation of a small business.
He had a terrific sense of humor and always enjoyed a good story. Hugh was very outgoing and made many lifelong friends wherever he travelled.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh & Erma, and his sister Carol. Survivors include his wife Charlotte, his four sons; Dennis (Seattle), Jim (Bozeman), Steve (Seattle) Gary (Bozeman), and three stepchildren; Steve Korthas (Casper), Rachel Handl (Great Falls) Dan Korthas (Belgrade), and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
