Herbert Bryers

Bryers Herbert William #8216;Herb#8217; Bryers, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Bozeman with loved ones nearby. He was born in Winter Haven, Florida on Feb. 6, 1927 and grew up in Colorado Springs, CO. At age 16 he joined the merchant Marine and had many adventures in the Pacific. After the war he returned home to Colorado. Always loving automobiles, he started racing dirt tracks with his home built jalopies. In 1948 he married Marjorie Hanon. Five Children came of the marriage of childhood sweethearts. Michael of W. Yellowstone, Anne of Livingston, Pattie of Colorado Springs, CO, Steve of Butte and James of Fort Peck, MT. He served in the Army in Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1947. In 1948, he raced the Pikes Peak Hillclimb, and got 2nd place, he finished in that position 4 times in the years to come, racing until 1959. He raised his family on a ranch near Pikes Peak, CO. Herb worked as a carpenter, then ran the maintenance of Brady Hospital, one of the first mental hospitals in the state, which was started by his grandfather, Dr. Emory John Brady. In 1978 he married Joyce Green of W. Yellowstone and they made their wonderful home in Bozeman for 30 years of happiness which extended his family to include Joyce#8217;s children, Jeff, Billy, Howard, Les, his son Mike#8217;s wife, Liz, and Joy. Herbs oldest son Mike married Joyce#8217;s daughter Liz in 1976 and introduced the two and they married two years later. He passed leaving his wife Joyce, 10 children and step children, 31 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was never known to say an unkind word, and all of his family, friends and neighbors will miss him greatly. Graveside Services will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery, in Colorado Springs, Co. on Thursday, December 6, 2007, at 1:30 PM, with Military Rites. Condolences may be sent to www.dahlcares.com
