Henry Elrod Ramsey Obituary
Bozeman, MT - Henry Elrod Ramsey died June 4, 2017.
Born in Atlanta, GA, March 19, 1938, he was the son of the late
William Little Ramsey and Farrar Elrod Ramsey. Mr. Ramsey was a graduate of
The Westminster School in Atlanta. Prior to graduating from the University of
Georgia, he attended Davidson College. At UGA, he received a Bachelor’s
Degree in Journalism and he was president of Kappa Alpha Order. Following
graduation he served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. He began his career at
First National Bank of Atlanta before graduating from the Berkeley Divinity
School at Yale University. He served as an Episcopal priest at St. Paul’s in
Holyoke, MA, before being director of the Model Cities Program in Holyoke.
He served as an Episcopal priest at St. John’s at Smith College, Northampton,
MA, and at Trinity Church in Hartford, CT. After moving to Washington D.C.,
he started Henry Ramsey Old Books and continued that business after moving
to Athens, GA. In Athens he served on the board of Athens Area Habitat of
Humanity and as its president. Mr. Ramsey was a faithful member of the
Wayne Middendorf Sunday School Class at First Presbyterian. In 2015, he and
his wife Bonnie Nichols Ramsey moved to Montana to be near their family.
Mr. Ramsey was renown for his gentle manner and graciousness. His
cooking and his creativity made all life around him happy. He was an excellent
father and friend and he will be missed.
Survivors include his wife; his daughter Elizabeth Stuart Ho Chee
(Murphy) of Maple Valley, WA; his son, Richard Farrar Ramsey (Halina) of
Laguna Beach, CA; and his stepson Charles Daniel Uter (Stephanie) of
Bozeman, MT. Also surviving are his grandchildren Katherine Musamoa Ho
Chee and Abigail Fealofani Ho Chee of Maple Valley, WA; and Eleanor Zofia
Bennet Ramsey and John Jasper West Bennet Ramsey of Laguna, Beach, CA.
The mother of his children, Midge Bowen Bennet of Lyme, CT, and his
brothers William Ramsey (Lily) of Athens, GA, and Julian Ramsey (Rosalin) of
Atlanta, GA, also survive him.
At the request of Mr. Ramsey, no funeral service is to be held. A
family blessing will be conducted by Reverend Jason Bowker of Bozeman.
Memorials may be made to the Athens Area Habitat for Humanity.
