Helen Rae Uhlrich, 91, passed away on August 13, 2013 at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. She was a long-time resident of Bozeman, most recently living at Birchwood Retirement Home. Helen Rae was born the second of four children on Dec. 28, 1921, to Charles and Clara McDermott in Miles City, MT. She was raised near Power and graduated from Power High School in 1940. In 1944, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Montana State College with an emphasis on dietetics. Following graduation, she worked as a dietician for the MSC Student Union. After starting a family, she was well known for her many years of making custom draperies in the Bozeman area. Helen Rae married Paul Uhlrich on June 11, 1949 at Holy Rosary Church in Bozeman. Family was always a priority for them, and together they raised four children. She was a member of PEO Chapter BF and active at the Bozeman Senior Center, Resurrection and Holy Rosary Catholic parishes. As a loyal Bobcat, she was alum advisor for Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, Spurs and Mortar Board. Helen Rae will be remembered as a loving wife and devoted mother. She was hospitable, compassionate and spirited to all that knew her. She will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; a son, David; and parents Charles and Clara McDermott. Helen Rae is survived by her children and their families: son Rob (Donna Woodburn) Uhlrich of Fort Collins, CO and grandchildren, Jennifer, Katie and Scott; daughter Jean (Brent) Murray of Great Falls and grandchildren Colleen (Brent) Lignell, Kathleen (Joel) Lohrmeyer and Brian (Krysta) Murray; daughter Karen (Manfred) Bartz of Snohomish, WA and grandchildren Stefani, Michaela and Kristiane; and daughter-in-law Joyce (Hoff Uhlrich) Kastner of Loveland, CO, and grandchildren Heidi (Ryan) Smith and Jason (Amanda) Uhlrich and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Natalie Bergland of San Antonio, TX, Winfred McMullen of Glendive and Patrick (Rosa) McDermott of Ramsey. Visitation will be held at 6 pm on Sunday, followed by a Foresters Rosary at 6:30 pm and Vigil Service at 7 pm, all at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass is Monday at 10 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Bozeman followed by burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
